| A White Christmas Tree | | What do you think of a white Christmas tree? Have you ever had one, or do you find them tacky? | |
| | Holiday decorating | | I have an associte degree in interor design and I have heard many things about decorating homes for holidays. I grew up in a family that had little money so this idea seems very far out for me. but it is something I have thought about doing. My question is would anyone (if you had the money) pay someone to decorate your home for a holiday? | |
| | Meaningful Ideas for Families | | 1. Go for a family nature walk near your home to collect seasonal items that you can use in your holiday decor. If you live near a forest, the obvious choices are pine boughs and pinecones, but long dried grasses can look just as festive tied with a holiday bow.2. Make a few handmade holiday cards this year as a family.3. Make appreciation cards. Replace the annual Christmas letter in your holiday cards with a brief letter of appreciation for the recipient. Please post if you have any. | |
| | Religous Holiday Displays: love 'em or hate 'em? | | Across the United States, city and state governments, and even private companies are wrestling with how to decorate for the holidays. If they put up a christmass tree, should they be required to also display a Menorah, and maybe a kinara (Kwanzza candle holder) on top of that? And what about the fact that the Christmas tree isn't about Christ at all, any more than Easter eggs or bunnies are, the ubiquitous tree, holly boughs, evergreen wreaths, and yule log-- are Pagan in origin.Recently, the Seattle-Tacoma airport put up holiday decorations, inluding those Christ- I mean Pagan trees. A local rabbi approached them about putting up one menorah, next to the largest tree. He threatned to sue if they wouldn't allow it. So the SEATAC airport took down all the trees in public areas. The rabbi was shocked at their actions, and after getting death threats, withdrew his minorah demand. The airport got a lot of bad press, and the trees went back up. What a waste of everybody's time.As a pantheist, I believe the many faces of diety. I love holidays, celebrations, and decorations. I don't object to those lovely, lit-up trees, that... | |
| | What do you do with your Christmas cards when the holidays are over? | | Yesterday I took down all the holiday decor, but I'm staring at a bulletin board full of holiday cards sent by friends and family, and like each year, I'm torn over what do to with them. Do I keep them, despite my minimalist leanings, and end up with another box of mementoes that I rarely look at? Or do I just toss them out, despite the fact that people cared enough to take the time and effort to send them, and I was so happy to receive them? So, what do you do with the cards you received once the holidays are over? Do you throw them away, keep them, or have some fun craft to make something useful with them? | |
| | Raise Your Hand If You Like the DOLLAR STORE!!! | | Lol, I was just posting in another discussion that shopping is something that makes me feel better sometimes when I am down. Of course, I try not to let myself abuse shopping as a way to make me feel better, but it's fun, and what girl doesnt like to shop?! Okay, I know there are a few of you out there, but i'm not one of them! Lol.So that brought me to mention the dollar store because I am in the middle of building my jewelry business (check out my profile if you want to take a peek) so I don't have a regular job and my fiance and I are now living on one income instead of two... So a fun cheap place for me to shop is the dollar store!I love searching through the scrapbooking section and looking at other art supplies they have, but I also like buying silly socks with funny designs on them, and I like stocking up on mix match coffee mugs, and such like that... I also use the dollar store as an awesome resource for party supplies whenever I need them, and candles and other little holiday decor items are great from the dollar store as well...So tell me, if you like the dollar store, what's your favorite thing about it? What do you like to buy there?:D | |
| | Holiday decorating or cleaning frenzy? | | I don't know about the rest of you, but this next week is going to be a cleaning frenzy for me. We will be putting up our christmas decor and that means I have to make room for all the holiday stuff. We even have to move the furniture around a bit to make room for the tree so all the dust bunnies who were happily snoozing in the corner will be disturbed. The unmatched earring, lone barbie shoe and stray puzzle piece that someone placed on top of the bookshelf will have to find a new home so I can put my nativity set there. I spend so much of my time cleaning that it is always amazing to me that there is any dust left ANYWHERE, but when you start moving stuff around...there it is! I think I am going to try to get a head start this year and have everything spotless before we bring the decorations down from the attic. Then maybe I can just relax and enjoy putting up the tree and lights. Do you find secret messes when you are decorating for the holidays? | |
| | Changing Decorations For The Season | | No I'm not ready forthat season yet, but I do love a bit of fall color in my home. I have an arrangement that I made several years ago that I like for a short period of time. It has a lot of oranges in it and that gets old very quickly.
I got the arrangement out and even though it's been in a box wrapped with a plastic bag it was yuck! There's no way I can keep dust out of anything here.
I had to clean it up and re arrange everything before I could put it out. I thought it might be helpful to others to know how to clean silk arrangements so I wrote an e How article on it. You can see it here. http://www.ehow.com/how_4552599_clean-silk-flowers.html
How about you? Do you change the decorations in your house seasonally? | |
