| You shop. I'll play. | | When I go food shopping with my wife I am invariably told at the supermarket door that I can "go and play". This is her way of telling me that appreciated though I am she would rather shop without a 50 year old child running amok down the aisles. Throwing things we don't need into the trolley/cart and, at this time of year, frightening the real children by donning a Halloween mask and making silly noises. So I go and look at all the technological wizardry on display. Fiddle with the CDs, watch some TV (about the only time that I do), if I've got a few pennies I'll buy a cup of tea, open and close washing/dishwashing machine doors and be a general nuisance. After 20 minutes or so I then set off through the store trying to find my beloved. This is a principal form of aerobic exercise for me, coupled with loud sniffs and sobs as I realise that she just HAS to have left without me. Then I see her, my heart resumes it's normal pace and I get told off for sticking that bar of choccy in the cart that my waist really does not need. So here is my plea to Supermarket owning myLotters. Please install an adult creche. Let's have a ball park, a "take something technical apart" bit, perhaps. If... | |
| | Parenting a grandchild is different. | | Those who know me, know that I am a 52 year old grump who is also a grumpa parenting a now 5 year old grandson. My wife and I did our time, paid our dues and surprise... We are doing it again.
Well we all know that when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. We got a grandson to raise, I got maturity onset MS and my wife's store got a downturn in the economy.
I am the house husband and primary care giver to a 5 year old boy.[em]blink[/em]Ladies, you all know how much of a challenge that would be don't you. Mind you, it's easy for you. God allowed you to be natural multitaskers, and equipped you with unimaginable patience. It's a cake walk for you..only one kid...
Anyway, old poppa here (AKA Crusty Old Curmudgeon)has been trying really hard to keep him stimulated. At 5 he reads well. Is adding, subtracting and now working on multiplying. We tell him that multiplying is just fast adding and he goes with it.But then there are the artsy crafty thingies that you moms do and dads go "What the hell is that? Oh. Uhh nice. What's for dinner?"So I try to remember some of the things I did in school.Have you got any idea at all how long it's been since I did paper mache? A... | |
| | have you seen anyone wearing a mask lately? | | no, no, not a halloween mask, i am talking about a surgical mask to keep those nasty H1N1 bugs away. today i was in a very large thrift store and it was pretty busy with people looking for halloween paraphenalia and i was sort of surpised to see an asian lady (i am guessing she was chinese - i am in canada) and she was wearing a mask. it made me think of the 1918 flu pandemic because everyone went around with these on their face. i was sort of surprised to be honest.besides this, we have just started handing out vaccines for the flu for critical cases (young kids, pregnant women, chronicly ill people etc) and the wait times are upwards of 4 hours!do you think there is much to do about nothing? that the flu is not that bad? are people over reacting? | |
